SOUTHERN BAND TUSCARORA INDIAN TRIBE
Wahkwast Ahweuhneh (Good Day) Greetings Future goals for the So. Band Tuscarora
Greetings from the Southern Band Tuscarora Indian Tribe of NC.
We are the remnants of the mighty Tuscarora Confederacy that once controlled most of NC. After the Tuscarora War. When the Tuscarora Confederacy was disbaned by the USGovernment, after the massacre of Neherooka Fort, the last stronghold of the Tuscarora, many of our families migrated North to Six Nations for protection.
The Southern Band Tuscarora scattered throughout North Carolina, according to Dr. David Phelps Archaeology, ECU University, Greenville, NC."Like seeds in the wind)
But the Southern Band Tuscarora didn't become extinct as history would have you believe. They hid among other Nationalities, for fear of more persecution. They survived to raise their families, quietly, the ancestors taught their children and grandchildren the way of our people. And now seven generations later, we the grandchildren are back and proud of our heritage and culture. Now we are relearning our ways, reviving our traditional beliefs. Holding on to our past.
There are many, many things the Southern Band Tuscarora Indian Tribe are working hard on this year.

History : Southern Band Tuscarora Indian Tribe
The Tuscarora Confederacy in the 1600's consisted of 24-26 large villages(there will be a link here). Each village had a Chief, Subchief, Shaman, Medicine Man or Woman. These villages were called Clans,(Clan link here) we had a Clan system that is matrilenial, meaning that you went to your Mothers Clan, unlike the European belief, the Tuscaroran women were very strong, they never walked ten paces behind the men, nor did they do all the work while the men were lazy. The whole village worked together, everyone took care of the elderly, because the elderly are wise, the young ones learned from that wisdom.
The Tuscaroran Men were strong and fiercely protective of their families, they were very caring for the children also, children were rarely punished, if they did wrong then everybody ignored them until they came around, it wouldn't take long in such a closeknit setting that the children who had done wrong would be apologizing.
More to come, site still under construction...We will have many links...Please come back for a visit. Nyeahweh (thank You) Dreamwalker
